Android SDK Components | Android SDK  Modular Tutorial

Android Software Development Kit is helpful for developers to create applications to run on Android OS. SDK components are able to download independently. The components of SDK are the software required for creating Android applications, examples of source code and command-line tools for writing and debugging the application. Android SDK can be used on Eclipse integrated development environment or IDE and also other IDEs.
From its inception, Android operating system has attracted the attention of various software developers. Android operating system can be used on tablet computer, mobile phones etc. Android SDK was launched in the year 2007 to allow the users develop applications for Android platform. These applications can be uploaded to the Android Market from which these can be accessed by the end users either for free or for a price.

Android SDK is modular which means the components are separately available. The software program that is included helps to add various components as and when required.  SDK and its components will be available for the three main computer platforms. Since Android applications use Java programming language the main component for Android SDK are the Java classes libraries. Android SDK repository SDK components can be downloaded and these come along with code samples, variety of tools, documentation and driver. Emulator is one of the important tools of SDK with which the developers can test their applications on virtual Android devices.

Though it is not a part of Android SDK, Android Developer Tools or ADT a plug in recommended for Android application developers. This is available for only Eclipse.  SDK compatible platforms are Windows XP, Mac OS and Linux. These IDEs provide graphical interface that helps the developers to do application development tasks fast. Since all the Android applications are written in Java code, the user should get the Java Development Kit – JDK installed in his device.
